Would you consider your character to be heroic? Why or why not?:
Ed doesn't really see himself as heroic; all of his actions and choices are driven by self-interest (namely, the desire to get Alphonse's body back, and preferably his missing limbs, too). What isn't driven by self-interest is motivated by a desire to "make up for" what he's done in the past, which is part of why he's so protective of Alphonse. Later, it drives him to make sure he succeeds (because Hughes was killed helping them), and even later, it drives him to make sure he succeeds without too high a cost (like his own life, or Al's, or using the philosopher's stone -- to make sure they don't make anyone else cry).

That said, his actions...kind of are heroic. While his immediate interest is in getting their bodies back, he also can't just sit by and let injustice fester. He goes through complicated schemes to make sure little towns aren't completely screwed over by people in power, even if those people are in the military, which he also serves. He can't stand to see people suffer, and can't sit by while someone abuses power.

He's often called "immature" in the series for his commitment to doing things without killing, but it stems from a desire to try to do things without sacrifice. In some of the series, that desire doesn't extend to himself -- it takes some time for him to realize that getting things done at the expense of himself hurts the people around him. When he does realize that, he's able to start keeping his own wellbeing in mind and act less recklessly.

So basically, yeah, he acts heroically. The ways and motivations for that grow and change throughout the series, as does his own opinion of his actions.

Powers/Abilities:
Martial arts. Ed and Al are both skilled fighters in hand-to-hand combat.
Alchemy. More info about alchemy here.
Intellect. While it's true that Ed can do alchemy without a transmutation circle because he's accessed the gate of truth, he's also unbelievably (book)smart beyond that.

Inventory: Just what he's wearing.

Coterie: Salamanders. STICK EM WITH THE NERDS.
